Greetings! I am Paul Rochette the owner and operator of EBC Inspections, LLC, your Home Inspection go to. I moved from Memphis to the Cleveland area in 2019 with my wife, Sheila who is a Cleveland Clinic Caregiver, my daughter Christina who just graduated from college and is now a commissioned officer in the Air Force, and our son, Erick who just graduated from Chagrin Falls High School. We love this part of the country and plan to someday retire here.
I hold a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology which means I pay a great deal of attention to details and I am very good at spotting potential issues. I grew up working in a family business, so I have a strong work ethic and understand the importance of providing excellent customer service. I have had coursework or hands on experience in many relevant areas including HVAC systems, home building, home remodeling, and home inspections.
I hold an Ohio license for home inspection, and I am insured. I have been vetted by Ohio State and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I am a member of both ASHI and InterNATCHI organizations, which help me stay current on updated state and federal requirements though continuing education courses.
Perhaps most importantly, I have been both a home buyer and a home seller and I understand the stress involved in being on either side of this process. I welcome the opportunity to go through your selected house with you, so that you have additional information to determine if this is the place you want to call “Home”.
Whether you choose me or another inspection company, check my website monthly for a newly added section called “A closer look at Home Inspections”.
The purpose of a home inspection is to assess the overall condition of the property and identify any potential issues, safety hazards, and defects. Inspections are not limited to people purchasing a home, rather any home, business, structure can inquire about having an inspection performed. To better understand the process, a home inspection is a visual inspection. Meaning, we are not removing structures, or making holes in an object to determine if there are issues.
When inspecting a building, we follow state and national standards. We rely on what we are seeing in a structure. As an example, looking at the home from the outside, it’s noticed the roof is sagging at the ridge (where two or more sections of the roof join). You cannot see the any damage outside. If attic access is available, we would look at the roofing structure from the underside. We might see a broken, truss, or improper framing. It could be too many shingle layers which places stress on the roof. In any event, we look for clues to guide us to the answer.
If a condition is poor and hazardous, we would suggest a subject matter expert to investigate. In the case above a structural engineer. My personal view on a home inspection is it is the first line of defense or knowledge of what is going on within any structure. A typical home inspection of a 2000 sqft. Home might take between 2-4 hours.
